Are You an Imposter?

I have worked with artist for 16 years and am an artist myself so those of you that are creatives may well have experienced some of the feelings like my clients have shared with me or I have myself

I feel like and Imposter

Am I good enough?

Everyone else is doing better than me

I feel exposed

I think people are talking about me

I am scared of what people might think

It’s not perfect

These are feelings or beliefs and they crop up in our lives all the times in all walks of life, yes CEO’s of big corporations feel like this too! Most of the time these thoughts are automatic, they pop up and we start to belivee them. I can have a long lasting negative affect on you but there is a way to overcome these negative feelings and beliefs.

When I hear my clients mention this I often ask, where and how often this is happening to them. Is it in all aspects of their lives or in a particular context. Once people start to talk about when and where this is happening they become more and more aware of their inner critic popping up in daily life. Acknowledging the inner critic is the first part of breaking free from its limiting beliefs. Say hello to it, recognise it and use techniques to talk to it if you have to, “Oh Hello Inner Critic”.

Once we get used to recognising it we can then start to work with the knowledge you have gained. Is it based in reality? Who says so? What IS good enough? By digging deeper about how, when and why these feelings are cropping up can help you to understand where these feelings come from. It could have been a critical teacher or parent in your child hood, it could have been failing an exam.

By seeking the help of an online creative coach you can overcome these beliefs and negative thoughts. Sometimes three coaching sessions can leave people feeling resilient and able to reframe their negative thoughts. Get in touch today if this resonates with you.
